Mystery Google Pixel 2 "Taimen" model appears on Geekbench running Android O

Google's first time designing brand new smartphones proved to be a big success for the Alphabet division. There are many Google Pixel and Google Pixel XL users out there who will tell you that the pair were easily the best Android phones for 2016, topping the competition such as the Samsung Galaxy S7, Samsung Galaxy S7 edge, LG G5, Moto Z Force and others. Naturally, Google is returning to the flagship market with sequels that will be manufactured once again by HTC.

There has been talk of three new Pixel models for 2017. As usual, Google looked to the ocean for the code names it is using on these phones.The Pixel 2 has a code name of Muskie, while the larger Pixel 2 XL is dubbed Walleye. And then there is a third unit with the code name of Taimen.

This is the model that appeared today on the Geekbench benchmark site. Running on Android O, the next build of the open source OS, the phone was tested with the Snapdragon 835 chipset under the hood, running the octa-core CPU at a clock speed of 1.9GHz. The single-core test resulted in a score of 1804 while the multi-core score hit 6248.

The Pixel and Pixel XL were introduced and launched last October, so we could be months away from seeing the sequels meet the light of day. And of course, there is this mystery Taimen model that will apparently turn the duo of Pixels into a trio this year.
